Juliana waited until nightfall to go to the grocery store, nearing ten at night. She could feel my presence. She could hear my voice. Though she wouldn’t even summon me to carry the four bags of groceries she was walking to the apartment. I hated this “hiding” plan of hers.
We strolled down an empty thin street, with few street lamps to guide us on the way home, each light at least thirty meters apart from each other. I followed her in my astral projection form.
“Juliana, please,” I begged. “You cannot keep me hidden like this. You’re walking alone and defenseless; you have to summon me.”
She didn’t even look my way. “And have that creep Braxton absorb you? No thanks. Besides, I know a few spells. I can trap him if I have to and then make my way home.”
“Is that so?” A darkened voice spoke from in front of us.
There was no one in sight ahead of us, though the voice was close enough to stop both Juli and myself from heading further.
Coming from a side alley from further ahead, Braxton, our worst nightmare as of lately, showed himself. He was a man of six feet in height, with an age range of around thirty. His short red hair matched that of his spirit summon as well, Noah, who stood next to him in a red and black themed casual outfit, red jeans and a plain black shirt, with red hair and shoes to match. Unlike Braxton’s hair, which laid on top of his head, Noah’s hair was frizzy and slicked over from the back of his head to the front of his head.
“Since I already know that you are going to refuse my proposal, i’ll just have Noah kill you right away.”
Noah materialized a glaive into his hand, levitating across the ground at full speed into Juliana’s direction. Juliana dropped her groceries and readied herself, but I knew that no spell that she could quickly conjure would stop Noah. I had already faced him once before.
Knowing that I would be drained of nearly half my strength...knowing that Noah would have the upper hand, I committed a forbidden act. I forced myself to be summon, materializing in front of Juliana with my own set of weapons in hand, two one handed curve swords.
Our weapons clashed as we held a tug a war stance, placing a smirk on my advisories face.
“You’re pretty bold to come out on a forced summon. You know what happens on that behalf as well. You won’t be able to beat me with only sixty percent of your strength. You’ll die at her feet and my master will absorb every bit of your mana.”
“Fuck you!” I shouted, pushing him back and going in for a series of swipes.
My thin blades came through the air, and whatever Noah didn’t block he made sure to dodge. All it took was one, though the effects of the forced summon was easily present. I couldn’t keep up with Noah’s speed.
Noah stepped back far enough, swiping the ground with his glaive and launching a massive stream of energy that surfed the ground from his direction, into mine. Not strong enough to counter it with my own spell and having Juliana behind me, I endured the impact, bracing myself with my blades in a guarding defense position. The wave of energy exploded up impact, knocking me on my back as a trail of smoke followed after me.
“Kay!” I could hear Juliana scream.
On my way back up from the ground, Noah slammed down on my stomach with his glaive, coming from what looked like the Heavens as he ended up so high in the sky from my point of view, the moon blessing him in the background.
The glaive pierced my stomach, going through my back and touching the ground underneath me.
“You can hand over your soul now,” Noah taunted me.
